FLOTILLA DAY: PART 3

THE FIREWORKS AT LAKE ST. JOHN
We went back to the lake after the swim, watermelon, baths and a stop at the sonic. The sad things is that Natalie fell asleep before we got there since she had missed her nap with all the day's activities. But she did wake up in a pretty good mood to see the fireworks. They still scare here some, but I think she enjoyed watching the wonder of them this year.

The next two photos are of the little mini air balloon things that were given to the people who made donations to pay for the fireworks. Mr. Buddy made a nice contribution so he had several of these. Everyone was suppose to light them at the same time and let them go. I am not sure...but I think they were suppose to help light of the lake so that we could see the fireworks. Well, I don't think it worked like it was suppose to. I didn't get really good photos this time, but it was about the same fireworks show as the night before that we (Randy and I) saw on the riverfront. So I am posting them with this post since I won't be posting anything from the day before...after all this is Natalie's World. I guess I should start a family blog or convert this to a family blog....I have been thinking along that line, but we'll see and I will play it by ear and at some point I will.
Tiffany and the balloon...

Mr. Buddy and the balloon...
Natalie, Poppa and Cari wanting for the show to start.
I am not that great at this kind of photography, but I think these turned out okay...they were my favs. What do you think! Did you get to enjoy some fireworks this year!

This is the end of our Saturday and Flotilla Day.

FLOTILLA DAY: PART 2

AFTER THE FLOTILLA:
Were you expecting more swimming images. I didn't get the camera out until later...while were were eating watermelon. Natalie thought she was supposed to eat the seeds.

"CHEESE!"

She finally figured it out and I think she enjoyed the melon. We had bought this for the day before and then forgot about it until everyone had left. Oh well...more for us!

FLOTILLA DAY: PART 1

07.05.08
THE FOTILLA (the day after the 4th) This year the on the fourth Natalie was with her other grandmother. I realized out her first three fourth of Julys were with her on the first two. It seemed strange her not being with us this year, but she does have other family too, uh.
As tradition has it, the flotilla is the first Saturday in July at Lake St. John.
We moved to this area in 2000. We were very involved in baseball even then and it seemed that with all stars getting kicked off at that, we were either practicing for an all star game or playing in a tournament. So finally as Cameron got older or ball season changed and we eventually started attending this event at the Tanner' s Lake house. It is often quite funny, but always hot!
Last year was our first year to take Natalie. This images from that day were lost with the same ones that I lost on the fourth of them playing on the slip-n-slide that I mentioned in an earlier post.
Natalie enjoyed watching the boat parade and waving at all the passengers. It was funny many of them new her. "hey, Natalie!" I would hear from someone that I wasn't sure that I knew, but maybe I just didn't recognize them from the distance (in their lake attire, etc).

And if they didn't wave at her immediately she would complain that they weren't waving at her!

She said that this boat was like her shirt. Her top in flag bandana made out into a halter. It was quite funny that she noticed this!

Okay, I did again...I asked someone to take my photo with her. Cari was shooting up...so not exactly a flattering angle, but as you can see I was happy to be sharing this experience with my little sweetheart.
Sometime I call Natalie a little drama queen. So I have a little story that this "Drama Queen" float reminds me of: At prom while we were wating for the everyone to arrive, Natalie was a little wretched looking from running around waiting for her parents to arrive so that she could have a prom photo with them. I looked at her and told her that I don't know what she looks like...and she said...have you guess it: "A Drama Queen", thus she did not understand the term "drama queen". I am pretty sure she thought it was along the line of "Princess". What's that phrase..."kid's say the darndest things!".

red-neck yaght club?

I think was Natalie's favorite and one of the winners...

"Mimi, that was has a horse on it."

Natalie and her Aunt Cari

This is Ainsley. I did her one-year portrait the day before at her grandparents home at Frogmore...the same place that we had the bridal luncheon.

When the parade was over, Natalie wanted to swim in the lake too. We explained to her that it is dirty and the we would go home and swim with her. So she pleaded, "can I put my feet in the water?". So Poppa walked out to the car and got it.
We're weren't even going to take a chance of her putting her feet in the water w/o a jacket on. From time-to-time she forgets that she can't swim w/o floaties or a life jacket.
Time to go home Natalie...

And that's what we did. She was very tired and fell asleep on the way before getting home, but woke up as soon as we got there so that she could go swimming.

She loves swimming and enjoyed it so much this summer!

SO MUCH TO DO!

So what does a mimi do when she has so many things to do she doesn't know what to do next? Well, BLOG, of course...

I am still extremely behind on so many things. This summer has been non-stop, but since Natalie will soon be moving to B.R., I do want to enjoy our time together as much as possible. The other day when I didn't have a lot of time to tackle all the really big jobs that I need to do I did a little playing to create a birthday ticker for Natalie. First I tried to add it to the top and it cut some of it off. My friend Nicki said I probably need to do the mini one...so the next time I worked on it when I have few minutes in between things--I got it. I put it on the side and it wasn't cut-off. Well, I got on to look at something and realized that I had another big boo boo. I was in such a hurry that I didn't change the default b'day (jan. 1st--I think)...I noticed because it showed the she was like 2 and 5 mos and so many days etc. Since her birthday is coming up I noticed it right away this time. So I deleted and changed it.

So we are also planning a birthday party for our almost-three-year-old!

Random Thoughts

THESE IMAGES WERE CAPTURED ON JULY 1, 2008, LAST WEEK.
Natalie posing in her new Gymboree swimsuit! Ebay is so cool. This is from this year's line, but I bought if for a fraction of the cost. I don't know how those sellers do it...if they get them at outlets or what, but I love a great outfit at a bargain price!
She knows all about sunblock! She knows it always required! But I bet you don't get the timer in her hand. I bought a new timer (my old quit) just for swimming. I knew she would love it and not want to come in. Most days that she is here we go swimming. I want to really enjoy the summer because it will over before we know it. Okay...next: the swimmer vest: This is one of swimming aids that I bought last summer. It looks kind of rough because it hang on the pool for a while after summer was over, but it still works. Last year it didn't do so well for Natalie, but this year she seems to be able to handle almost any swimming aid. She has gotten so unafraid of the water. She has come so far in less the 6 wks. We can't believe the difference from "I might die" to "I am jumping in again!"

When the water is a little cool...like most of the time (except for today), she likes to kick he feet in the water before getting in or while we are still applying our sunblock. She has really turned into a water baby again this summer!
Okay, I was actually wanting to post a few random thoughts or rather converstions that Natalie and I have had today. But as you may know I hate to post thought w/o images. So I looked through some files and found these. And I think they are the actual images that I should post according to the order of events with the exception of some images on the other camera (the ones this one came off of) that were taken on Father's Day. Again these are my best images. These were taken with the little camera...though I should use it more again to capture more candid moments more often!

It is so hard to work this summer with Natalie being here and even when she's not. Often this summer, I think I should have been a teacher so that I would always be off work when my kids were out of school...I sure I still could have found photography. After all, I know several teachers who end up retiring into the photography field. But I when Natalie does need to be here, we play when she is away. I work when she is asleep. She stays the night a lot than she did during the past school year because both her parents are working evening jobs. Since it is so late when they get off, it is just easier that way.

Today I got her later than normal because I just waited until after lunch to head that way to get her. By the time I finished running errands, it was almost 4:00 when we got home. I was thinking it would be earlier and that we would swim a while and then she would just get a late nap. By the time we got out there, I forgot all about naptime and didn't remember again. I until I was trying to fix her supper plate. She looked like she was about to fall asleep. Well I was really wanting her to eat first because I was thinking she could go to bed early since she had no nap today. And it happened. She fell asleep in the high chair. Before I had a chance to tell him otherwise, Poppa took her out of the high chair. I had intended to clear the bed and put her in there since it is almost dark and hope that she would still be down for the night. Since it didn't happend that way, after he held her for a while I asked him to just lay her on the coach so that I could finish putting up the clean laundry that was still on the beds (ours and hers) in our room. So as I was finishing up the task at hand, here they come. Natalie is awake. So we done the bedtime routine: brush teeth, put on nightclothes, read books, etc. I left Randy to do this with her so that I could finish doing some work and with intentions of staying up late to do some. But sometime later after I came back in here to the computer, Natalie comes running down the hallway in her usual stomp/run. And it guess it...Poppa was asleep, but she wasn't. So after she has help me get clothes out of the trying, put towels in the dryer and the "papermint moment" that I intend to share with you next, she is back in the bedroom supposedly watching Teletubbies (DVD that she has re-discovered recently). I am feeling quilty because I want to spend as much time w/her as possible when she is here because when I went in there she was entertaining herself with books (a good thing), but that didn't last long because now she is back in here. I think she heard Cari and Alexa. They just came in from a party. So now Cari is heating her up some leftover spaghetti too. After all, she didn't eat supper.

Boy am I getting carried away with the random thought. I guess I am journaling right now more than blogging.

I did want to share to particular moments of the day. The first one is from the pool today. After Cari came in to get ready for her party, we were looking for Randy to come join up. He was a little later getting home than I expected. I had called him told him that we were on our way home and asked him he would be coming home his usual time to go swimming with us. Usually we go right after lunch and she is napping for several hours after that. If he gets to swim with her, it is either or second time or she got her later and it is just a late swim. But since I was late picking her up after running errands, I thought it would hit it just right. But he had gotten delayed, but when we finally saw his truck coming down the turn road we both started getting excited. She and her daddy had a lot of fun playing with Poppa a few days ago. That was when she got very brave in the water and they developed some new "cirucs-style" pool tricks. So...when she said yea! Poppa and I can do some tricks! I said, "yea, Poppa is cool isn't he". (You know since he can do all those tricks w/her.) Her replay, "yeah, but your cute, Mimi.". I love it...she didn't want to leave me out because I can't do trick like Poppa. Now we do have some games we play, but I can't pick her up that high or throw her that far!

Okay, I will save the "papermint" story for my next post since this one has gotten really long! Sorry :(

I tend to write (type) like I talk.

NATALIE'S 2ND INDEPENDANCE DAY! 2007

THIS WAS NATALIE'S 2ND FOURTH OF JULY. I DON'T HAVE MANY PHOTOS. IT IS A LONG STORY THAT I WILL BREIFLY LAYOUT AT THE BOTTOM OF THESE IMAGES FOR THOSE INTERESTED PARITIES.

BUT I WILL TELL YOU NATALIE WAS AFRAID OF THE FIREWORKS AND DID NOT WANT TO GET CLOSE TO THEM.

She wouldn't even do a sparker. I guess it makes sense for them to be scared of them. We try and try to teach them to be afraid of fire and then we say...but hold this! And she has some definite fears (one of which is fire...Good! And the other is bugs...NOT ALWAYS GOOD!) She is deathly araid of any kind of bug. I think about this little girl's lady bug party at 2 years old...maybe at two Natalie was okay with lady bugs since she had the cool book about lady bugs that Carlie gave her for Christmas, but is tearified of bugs even dead ones. And do you know how many dead beatles you find in a pool on a regular basis! EVEN IF IT IS CLEANED REGULARLY! BUT AS CHILD EXPERT WOULD SAY...FEAR IS GOOD FOR A TODDLER!

Brittany trying to show them to Natalie.

Maybe Natalie was too afraid to be impressed but her mommy and Aunt Cari weren't.
I sprained my ankle about a week before this day. It was a really bad sprain and hobbled around on that foot for quite a while. In fact, it was close to Thanksgiving before the swelling finally went away...it didn't stay swollen all the time, but after a long day or lots of walking it would begin to swell. I was beginning to wonder if my ankle would ever go back to it's regular size.

But back to the July 4th, 2007 (last year), we didn't really do that much special. I guess we cooked something on the grill. I don't really remember. I do remember getting a watermelon and eating it. I also remember Randy making a homemade slip-n-slide out of a cotton bale bag. I took the most hilarious sight watching them play on it and I should have those images, but I lost them. I am very meticulous of keeping up with client's images...I have specific work flow, but mine have gotten lost from time to time in the shuffle of the day to activities and clearing out the memory card for a client and not realizing that I had personal images on the camera. At the time, I had two pro cameras, but I usually use one as back up camera, but sometime I used the main one for candid images around here. So what I think...being the operative term...think that, when I was deleting a memory card for my next session that I didn't scan far enough back to realize that my personal images were on it. Again, that's what I think happened. It makes me sad to know that I lost some precious images. There are so many cool things about digital photography that I didn't have around when my were little, but one of the disadvantages is that I have occassionallylost images through the chaos of just keeping things organized (also a much easier task pre-digital and pre-computer age). And sometimes the advantages become the disadvantage as well...like taking way to many photos and then having a hard time finding the time to edit and sort through them and the fact that now we don't print many. But back to another cool thing...I have them on my hard drive and many on back up CDs. In the event that we want to print them, make a slideshow with or post them on the blog from recently or from 2 years ago, they are just fingertips away. I could go on, but you get the picture.

That's it for now. I have more images to post from more activities of the last week or so, but for now I will get back to work on my pressing matters.

NATALIE'S FIRST FOURTH OF JULY

NATALIE HOLDING DADDY'S HANDS... NATALIE'S IN HER HOLIDAY SWIMSUIT HER FIRST 4TH OF JULY!

(Her last, first holiday, July 4, 2006)
I wished I had done this blogging thing since Natalie was a newborn. Gee, I didn't even know it existed until I firt saw Jonah's when he was about 7 or 8 mos. old when he came for bunny portraits. But I can do this...go back and get images from the past and try to give the story behind the images. I do truly believe that images endorse our memories and make the last so much longer than a memory w/o photos.
This particular 4th, I had some of my family to come over something we rarely do. My brother, Danny, at the time was living in Pineville and though we had gotten together several times since they had been living there (I think they lived there almost 3 years), we had not done anything like this...we're all just so busy. But my mom, my sister and her friend, my niece, my brother and his wife and my family had 4th of July cookout here at the house...I am not sure why but my dad and my other brother weren't able to attend.
It was one of those typical 4th that ended up raining at some point...I think while we were swimming. We went to the Tanner's home to use their in-ground pool though we had recently purchase our firt above-ground pool. After the rain, left I think they did play some in our pool. But the following images reflect the time at the other pool. At this age Natalie really enjoyed the water too! Notice she had a great tan through all the sunblock that she was coated with each time we went outside the house.
She is just learning to walk at this time. She is holding her Poppa's hand.

hanging out in the water...she appears to be looking around to see what everyone else is doing.

Making her daddy laugh!
Now making Aunt Cari laugh!

All my four in the pool and my neice, Brooke. I guess I should have had them bunch up and pose, but I guess this is better than nothing.

I do remember this is something she would do. She would spash herself and laugh. But sometime it was like she didn't know who was splashing her. It was really funny!

Now she's making her mommy smile.

I have tried to get better about taking images of everyone at the event or occassion. Blogging is my form of scrapbooking at this time and it really makes you think about capturing more of the little things and images of other people too...not just Natalie...not just the younger ones! But my family (most Randy and Cameron) do complain about the cameras. Cameron got tired of being photographed years ago and hasn't really gotten over it...I really don't understand why (lol).

I enjoyed looking at these images again and I hope you do too!
